Horseback Riding Packages

01Jul

5-NIGHT & 7-NIGHT JUNGLE HORSEBACK

Adventure Packages

5-NIGHT HORSEBACK RIDING PACKAGE

Day 1

We will pick you up at the International Airport in Belize City. A stop at the Belize Zoo can be added to your arrival or departure transfer depending on arrival time if arranged in advance and for an additional fee.  After a scenic two-hour drive across Belize, you will arrive at Table Rock after your long days journey, relax and decompress to the sounds, smells, and views of our jungle valley before having an open-air dinner and then retiring to your cabana for the night.

Day 2

After a hearty breakfast, you will be picked up for a rustic 30-minute drive through neighboring villages to our horseback outfitter, Mountain Equestrian Trails (MET). Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. MET will provide water, lunch, a small saddle bag, beach towel and poncho.  After an introduction to your horse and orientation, you’ll head out for a full day of riding. You will ride through the rainforest to an ancient Mayan cave.  Explore and discover interesting formations and evidence of the Mayan culture in pottery remnants and potsherds that are hundreds of years old.  (Please don’t touch them!) After the cave, refresh yourself with a cool dip in the crystal clear waters of Butterfly Falls and feast on a gourmet picnic lunch.  Return to MET between 3:00 and 4:00 PM. After a refreshing beverage, you will be driven back to Table Rock to freshen up for dinner and lively conversation with other guests.

The trail meanders through the village of El Progresso where refugees from Guatemala and El Salvador are living. The trail then passes through a Mennonite community where you can observe ancient farming practices such as horse-drawn buggies, plows, and mills. As you make your way down the steep narrow road to the valley floor, you will be astounded by the size of fruit trees and tropical flora in the fertile Barton Creek valley. Arriving at Mike’s Place, you will step into a canoe, and paddle upstream in the shade of a huge vine covered limestone cliff, then suddenly disappear, paddling deep into the sparkling river cave. When you return to the mouth of the cave, enjoy a swim and a delicious lunch before returning to MET. Your day ends with another fabulous dinner at Table Rock’s palm-thatched dining room.

Day 4

This day begins with a beautiful half-day horseback ride followed by lunch in the MET Cantina. From there you’ll hop in a vehicle to visit the Maya ruins and do some shopping in San Ignacio. The destination for the half-day ride is a secluded hidden valley where you will ride along a winding creek and enjoy the exotic tropical vegetation and excellent opportunities for sighting colorful rainforest birds and iridescent butterflies. After lunch, you will return to Table Rock for a chance to shower and change clothes. Your MET guide will then accompany you on a tour to a Mayan site followed by shopping, or optional cultural tours in San Ignacio, or simply experiencing the ambiance of the lovely town of San Ignacio at the confluence of the Mopan and Macal Rivers where they merge into the Belize River. You will return to Table Rock for dinner and a relaxing evening.

As you make your way down the steep narrow road to the valley floor, you will be astounded by the size of fruit trees and tropical flora in the fertile Barton Creek valley. Arriving at Barton Creek Outpost, you will board a canoe, and paddle upstream from the opening in the shade of a huge vine covered limestone cliff, then suddenly disappear, paddling deep into the sparkling river cave. Day 6

Rise a little earlier for a 7:30 AM vehicle departure for the magnificent ruins of Caracol in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve.  At Caracol, a knowledgeable guide will lead as you explore the site. The ruins are located in a rich jungle setting, teeming with wildlife. Come prepared for hiking and climbing the tallest building in Belize, Ca’ana. Parrots and  monkeys are seen regularly. This is the largest Maya site in Belize, housing maybe 15,000 with another hundred thousand or more living in the ‘suburbs’ along the causeways. You will visit the central core of the city–the entire site is about 75 square miles. Be sure to climb Ca’ana, Belize’s largest building at 141 feet high, for a spectacular view.  Depart after lunch and stop along the way for a swim in the refreshing Rio On Pool in the Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve.
