    Guided Canoeing to San Ignacio

Learn about the riverine flora and fauna on the pristine Macal River with this two-hour guided canoe trip from Table Rock to San Ignacio Town. Your naturalist guide will meet you at our canoe landing and paddle you along the river, pointing out such sights as sleeping vampire bats, kingfishers, spiny bamboo, huge green iguanas, and – if you’re lucky – maybe even neotropical river otters. The peace of the Macal River is uninterrupted by power boats or jet skis and it’s unusual to run into many other people on its calm and tranquil waters. Once you get to town, you can either come directly back to the lodge or take a couple of hours to explore downtown San Ignacio on your own. Check out the San Ignacio Market and visit the local array of gift shops, bars, and restaurants and get a feel for local culture in Western Belize. Our driver will pick you up at the rendezvous point in town at the designated time and bring you back to Table Rock.

Drive Time from Table Rock: Departs from Table Rock’s canoe landing. The drive back from San Ignacio takes 15 minutes.

Adventure Level: Easy. Leave the paddling to your naturalist guide — or help out if you’d like.

What to Wear & Bring: Shorts and a comfortable shirt with water shoes for getting in and out of the canoe, and comfy shoes for walking around town and the return to Table Rock.  Be sure to bring along plenty of sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, drinking water, and spending money for town.

    *Restrictions: None.

Duration: 2+ hours on the river, and up to 3-4 hours in town (optional)
